Growing up in the small town of Marceline, Missouri, Megan Tschannen learned early on the value of hard work and helping others simply because it’s the right thing to do. These lessons—rooted in rural living and inspired by her mother, a nurse of more than 30 years—laid the foundation for a healthcare career focused on compassion, trust, and mental wellness.
Megan brings a rich blend of experience and heart to her role at Community Medical Associates. With a Master’s in Nursing from UMKC, a Bachelor’s from Mizzou, and an Associate’s from MACC, her educational journey reflects her deep dedication to the field. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Megan spent over a decade as a travel nurse, gaining hands-on experience in ICU, cath labs, PACU, and more. Her clinical training in psychiatry includes both inpatient and outpatient mental health care, giving her a well-rounded perspective on the challenges her patients face.
Now focusing exclusively on psychiatry, Megan is especially enjoying the chance to work with pediatric patients—an exciting and meaningful addition to her background in adult care .”I just want to be helpful,” she says simply. “If I can be helpful, I’m here. If I’m not, I’ll move out of the way and help you find your way.”
Her philosophy of care is deeply human: listen more, judge less, and hold space for emotions. “Tears and laughter really are the best medicine,” she says with a smile. “Yes, we have incredible treatments and medications, but sometimes what people need most is to feel heard, safe, and cared for.”
Returning home to practice in Brookfield was always on Megan’s radar. Following the loss of her mother, being near family and lifelong friends became even more important. She values the kind-hearted spirit of rural communities and is proud to offer a specialty service that helps bring mental wellness to the forefront of overall health in the area.
Outside the clinic, Megan loves spending time with her rescue dogs, gardening, and being with her family—especially her nephews. “My love language is quality time,” she shares. “So anytime with my favorite people fills my cup.”
When you visit Megan’s office, you can expect to be treated with respect, empathy, and warmth. “The four walls of my office are a safe place,” she says. “We’re all just humans trying to get through life. If I can make someone feel even a little safer, I feel like I’ve done something worthwhile.”
If you’re looking for a provider who combines clinical expertise with heartfelt care, Megan Tschannen is here to listen and help you navigate your mental wellness journey.
