Pershing Health System Offers Affordable Community Blood Testing with Fast, In-House Results
By Nicky Elliott, Laboratory Assistant & Phlebotomist, Pershing Health System
When it comes to your health, knowledge truly is power.
Many serious health conditions, including high cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid disorders, vitamin deficiencies, and anemia, can develop without noticeable symptoms. A simple blood test can provide valuable information about what’s happening inside your body, helping identify potential health concerns before they become more serious.
That’s why Pershing Health System is inviting the community to its upcoming Community Blood Testing Event on Tuesday, August 11, from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. in the hospital’s front lobby.
The event offers affordable blood testing with no appointment needed, no doctor’s order required, and no separate blood draw fee.
“Many people wait until they don’t feel well before having lab work done,” says Nicky. “Routine blood testing is one of the easiest ways to stay on top of your health and identify potential concerns early. It gives you valuable information that you can discuss with your healthcare provider before small concerns become bigger ones.”
Why Choose Pershing Health System?
One of the benefits of choosing Pershing Health System is that you won’t pay a separate blood draw fee during this community blood testing event.
Your blood is collected and processed right here in our in-house laboratory by our experienced laboratory professionals. Because your testing stays local, most results are available within just a few days, giving you timely information you can discuss with your healthcare provider.
“One thing many people don’t realize is that their blood work often has to be sent to another facility for testing,” Nicky explains. “At Pershing Health System, the tests offered during this event are performed right here in our laboratory. Keeping testing in-house helps us provide accurate results quickly, so patients don’t have to wait long for answers.”
“Our laboratory follows careful quality control procedures every step of the way,” says Nicky. “From the moment your blood is collected until the results are reported, accuracy is our highest priority. We know patients and providers rely on these results to make important healthcare decisions, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
Understanding the Available Blood Tests
CMP + Lipid Panel – $30
This popular screening combines two important tests into one blood draw.
The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) evaluates:
- Liver function
- Kidney function
- Blood sugar
- Electrolytes
- Overall metabolic health
The Lipid Panel measures:
- Total cholesterol
- HDL (“good”) cholesterol
- LDL (“bad”) cholesterol
- Triglycerides
Together, these tests provide an excellent overall picture of your health and can help identify risk factors for heart disease and other chronic conditions.
“If someone isn’t sure where to start, this is often one of the most helpful screenings because it gives you such a broad overview of your health,” says Nicky.
CBC (Complete Blood Count) – $15
A CBC measures the different types of cells in your blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
This test can help detect:
- Anemia
- Infection
- Inflammation
- Certain blood disorders
“A CBC is one of the most commonly ordered laboratory tests because it provides so much useful information about your overall health,” Nicky explains.
Hemoglobin A1c – $20
The Hemoglobin A1c measures your average blood sugar over the previous two to three months.
It is commonly used to:
- Screen for diabetes
- Identify prediabetes
- Monitor diabetes management
“Unlike a single blood sugar reading, the A1c shows a longer-term picture of how your body has been managing blood sugar,” says Nicky.
TSH + Free T4 – $30
These tests evaluate how well your thyroid is functioning.
Thyroid problems may contribute to:
- Fatigue
- Weight changes
- Hair thinning
- Feeling unusually cold or warm
- Changes in heart rate
Together, these tests help identify both underactive and overactive thyroid conditions.
“If you’ve been experiencing unexplained fatigue, weight changes, or other symptoms, thyroid testing can provide helpful information to discuss with your healthcare provider,” says Nicky.
Vitamin D – $20
Vitamin D plays an important role in:
- Bone health
- Muscle function
- Immune support
Low Vitamin D levels are common and may contribute to fatigue and weakened bones.
“Many people are surprised to learn they have low Vitamin D levels because the symptoms can be subtle,” says Nicky.
Vitamin B12 – $10
Vitamin B12 supports healthy nerves, brain function, and red blood cell production.
Low levels may contribute to:
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Numbness or tingling
- Memory concerns
“Vitamin B12 plays an important role in your body’s energy production and nervous system,” Nicky explains. “Testing can help determine whether a deficiency may be contributing to your symptoms.”
PSA (Men Only) – $20
The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test measures a protein produced by the prostate gland.
It can help your healthcare provider evaluate prostate health and determine whether additional testing may be appropriate.
“PSA testing isn’t right for everyone, so it’s always a good idea to discuss your individual health history with your healthcare provider,” says Nicky.
Iron Panel – $12
The Iron Panel checks iron levels and may help identify:
- Iron deficiency
- Certain types of anemia
- Other conditions affecting iron metabolism
People experiencing fatigue or low energy may benefit from discussing this test with their healthcare provider.
“Iron deficiency is one of the more common causes of fatigue,” says Nicky. “An iron panel can provide valuable information to help determine whether low iron may be contributing to the way you’re feeling.”
Preparing for Your Blood Test
For the most accurate results, fasting is recommended before your blood draw. Water is encouraged, but food and beverages other than water should be avoided unless your healthcare provider instructs otherwise.
Payment is due at the time of service. Cash and checks are accepted.
An Investment in Your Health
“We want people to feel comfortable asking questions about their lab work,” says Nicky. “Our goal is to make blood testing affordable, convenient, and easy to understand so people can make informed decisions about their health.”
Routine blood work is one of the simplest ways to stay informed about your health and can help detect concerns before symptoms appear.
“Whether you’re monitoring an existing condition or simply checking your numbers for peace of mind, we’re here to provide accurate testing and timely results,” says Nicky. “We look forward to serving our community and helping people take an active role in their health.”
