Hospital Week at PHS: Health, Family, and Community

Pershing Health System is inviting the community to join in celebrating Hospital Week with a series of events designed to promote health, wellness, and community connection.

“Hospital Week is always a special time for us, but this year feels bigger than ever,” said Karla Clubine, CEO of Pershing Health System. “Our employees have been planning these events for months, and seeing their excitement really speaks to the passion they have for serving our community. It’s a reflection of who we are and the care we’re proud to provide every day.”

Throughout the week, Pershing Health System will host activities for both the community and its employees, highlighting its continued commitment to providing “Right Care. Right at Home.”

Community Health Fair Offers Low-Cost Testing and Free Screenings

Community members are encouraged to take a proactive step toward better health at the upcoming Community Health Fair, hosted by the Pershing Health System Laboratory Department.

The event will be held May 11 through May 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., with locations at Park Baptist Church (11th & 12th) in Brookfield and Bethany Baptist Church (13th & 14th) in Marceline.

This year’s health fair offers more than just blood testing. Attendees will have access to free screenings, including blood pressure, blood glucose, oxygen saturation, and weight checks, along with a variety of low-cost lab tests.

In addition, Pershing Health System will offer a discounted CT cardiac calcium scoring test for seventy-five dollars, reduced from the regular price of one hundred dollars, providing an important tool for evaluating heart health.

Several community organizations will also be on site to provide resources and information, helping connect individuals with services that support overall wellness. Participating organizations include the 9th Circuit Juvenile Office (Project Hero), Hospice Compassus, Elara Caring, Life Line Screening, Linn County Health Department, North Central Missouri Mental Health Center, Senior Benefit Services, Plexus Worldwide, Serve Link Home Care, St. Croix Hospice, and more.

“This event is about more than lab work. It is about bringing together services and resources that support the health of our entire community,” said Nicky Elliott, Phlebotomist and Laboratory Assistant at Pershing Health System.

Participants are encouraged to fast for twelve hours prior to cholesterol testing for the most accurate results. No insurance or physician order is required, and payment is due at the time of service.

Kids Night Brings Hands-On Fun and Learning for Families

Families across the area are invited to attend Kids Night on Tuesday, May 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Pershing Health System.

The event is designed to give children a fun, hands-on introduction to healthcare in a welcoming and engaging environment. Activities will include mini hospital tours, interactive learning experiences, and the opportunity to explore emergency vehicles up close, including an ambulance, fire truck, police vehicles, and LifeFlight.

Free ice cream sandwiches will be available, along with a variety of kid-friendly activities that combine fun with education.

“This is a great opportunity for families to come together and experience healthcare in a positive and welcoming way,” said Carissa Gunn, HIM Director and Kids Night Coordinator. “We want kids to feel comfortable and confident in a healthcare setting, and this event helps introduce them to the people and services right here in their own community.”

Kids Night is free and open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend and bring their friends.

Community Blood Drive Also Planned

As part of Hospital Week, a community blood drive will be held on Wednesday, May 13, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Conference Room C, located in the basement of Pershing Health System.

Hosted in partnership with the Community Blood Center, the event aims to help maintain a stable blood supply for local hospitals and patients in need. Blood donations are essential for emergency care, surgeries, cancer treatments, and many other medical needs.

“Blood donations play a critical role in patient care every day,” said Reeva Harrison, Laboratory Director at Pershing Health System. “By donating, you are helping ensure that life-saving blood is available when it’s needed most.”

Individuals who are in good health and meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to donate. Donors should eat well, stay hydrated, and bring a valid photo ID. Participants must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent, and meet minimum weight requirements.

Appointments are encouraged to help reduce wait times and can be scheduled online at savealifenow.org/group using group code EF4P.

For more information about the blood drive, contact Reeva Harrison at 660-258-1165.
